Cube (video game)

Cube is a free and open-source first-person shooter video game. It is often mistaken with its engine (zlib-licensed), the Cube Engine. The engine and game were developed by Wouter van Oortmerssen. It runs on a variety of operating systems, including Microsoft Windows, Linux, FreeBSD, OS X, AmigaOS 4, AROS, iPhone, Wii and Pocket PC devices with 3D acceleration such as Dell Axim x50v. It uses OpenGL and SDL. Cube has both single-player and multiplayer gameplay. The game contains a built-in level editor. The game was originally released in 2001. The first release with single-player mode was in January 2002. The latest update of Cube was released on August 29, 2005. Its engine has been reused for several other games, of which AssaultCube, released in November 2006, is the most popular. An official successor has been made called Cube 2: Sauerbraten (also simply known as Sauerbraten). Released in 2004, it uses another engine, the Cube 2 engine.
